Oli Bene story
All of OLI BENE

A dictionary, grammar and audio made by a Ukrainian who learned Slovak at the counter, not in a classroom. Free while it is in beta.

Slovak for the counter

Not a course. A tool for living here.

Every word is the one you need at a window, a surgery or a lease signing. Nothing is here to pass an exam with.

The dictionary, the grammar, the phrases, the situations and the drills open for people on the letter. The sample below and the trap test stay open to everyone.

Type a word or pick a topic. The audio uses your device's Slovak voice, so it works offline too.

The dictionary itself

These are real entries from the full dictionary, working here. The complete one holds 3000 words across 34 topics.

Words that betray you

A Slav reads a Slovak word, recognises it, and is wrong. Commit to a meaning before you turn it over: that is how these stick.

čerstvý

What does it actually mean?

Install it from the browser and it sits on the home screen like any other app. It works offline, remembers what you have learned, and asks nothing but the letter.

The whole thing, in your pocket

Everything on this page and more, built for a phone: the dictionary, the grammar, the phrases, the drills and a test that tells you what stuck.

Fair questions

Why not just use Duolingo?

Duolingo has no Slovak at all. Neither do most of the big apps. That absence is the reason this exists.

Do I have to sign up?

No. There is no account, no card and no newsletter. Open a page and use it.

Which languages does it translate into?

Slovak with Ukrainian and English side by side, so you can check a word against the language you think in.

Where does the audio come from?

Your device reads the Slovak out with its own voice. It needs no download and works without a connection.

What level is it for?

A1 to B1: from your first words to the sentences you need at an office window. Every entry is marked with its level.

It costs €0 while it is in beta.

All 3000 words, the grammar, the audio and the exercises. Nothing is held back behind the free part.
